When the weather is cold, the water in brake fluid freezes into ice crystals, making the fluid extremely sluggish. Its viscosity is increased so much that it cannot circulate properly through the system from the reservoir. Without residual pressure, a vacuum forms in the system and air is pulled in through the cylinders.
