This cross section of an injector shows a valve (1) operated by a solenoid. The solenoid winding is marked (2) and the core it moves is (3). An electrical impulse to the solenoid
pulls back the core distance "A" or 0.15mm opening the jet. The fuel, under pressure, is injected. Note that the length of time the injector is open determines how much fuel is injected.
